The homes of Union City
Union City sits on top of the Palisades in Hudson County, a compact and densely built city with Bergenline Avenue as its main shopping street. It holds about 27,400 homes and 66,500 people. According to Census figures, four in five occupied homes are rented, which is the first thing to know about housing here. The second is the scale of the buildings. Some 36 percent of homes are found in two to four unit houses, and another 32 percent are one size up, in the low rise apartment houses of 5 to 19 units on the numbered cross streets, many of them walk ups. Just under a quarter are in buildings that have 20 units or more, and fewer than 8 percent are single family houses. About half of all homes were built before 1960, and the median year is 1961.
How a visit works here
Stairs are the way into a great many Union City homes, so begin by telling us how many flights lead to your door and whether they are narrow. Curb space is hard to count on in a city this dense, so point out a driveway, a lot or any place where a van can stop to unload. If you rent, let the landlord or the super know the day, since the front door and the hallway will be in use. Afterward, keep a window open or a fan running for a few hours. A room with windows on one side dries more slowly than one with a cross breeze.

Union City: questions, answered
Do you clean in Union City walk up apartments with no elevator?
Yes. Much of Union City is low rise: Census figures show 69 percent of homes in buildings of two to nineteen units. Give us the number of flights and say if the stairs are narrow, and we plan the visit around the climb.
How soon is carpet dry after a cleaning in Union City?
Usually within a few hours. The exact time depends on the carpet's material, the weather that day and the airflow in the room. Nylon dries sooner than wool. Open the windows or turn a fan on, and keep furniture legs off damp carpet until it feels dry to the touch.
Can an area rug be cleaned inside my Union City apartment?
Yes. We clean rugs where they lie, after checking the fiber and testing the dyes. Some rugs need a full immersion wash, which an apartment floor cannot provide. If yours is one, we say so before starting, and the choice of what happens next stays with you.
