What builds up in a sofa

A sofa is used more hours a day than any carpet in the house, and it is almost never cleaned. Body oils darken the arms and the headrests. Crumbs and grit work down between the cushions. Spills are blotted and forgotten. Fabric holds all of it, and the gradual dulling is easy to miss until one cushion is flipped and shows the color the sofa used to be.

The tag decides the method

Upholstery fabric carries a cleaning code, usually on a tag under the seat cushions. W means the fabric can be cleaned with water based solutions. S means solvent only. WS allows either, and X means vacuuming only. We read the code and test a hidden place before we choose a method.

Most everyday sofas are polyester, microfiber or a cotton blend with a W or WS code, and they are cleaned with hot water extraction using an upholstery tool that controls how much water goes in. Fabrics that should stay drier are cleaned with a low moisture method.

Cushion by cushion

Each cushion is cleaned on all sides, then the frame, the arms, the back and the skirt. Covers stay on their cushions. A cover washed apart from the rest of the sofa can shrink or come back a slightly different shade, and a zipper is there for the factory, as a rule, more than for the laundry.

Stains, pets and what to expect

Food, drink and everyday soil usually come out well. Ink, dye transfer from dark jeans and old pet urine are harder. A pet accident that soaked into the cushion core can leave a smell that surface cleaning does not reach. We tell you what we expect before we begin, so there are no surprises when the fabric dries.

Sectionals, recliners and sofa beds

A sectional is quoted by its number of seats, and a recliner or a sofa bed takes longer because of its moving parts. Tell us the shape and the number of seats, and send a photo if you can. It is the fastest way to a quote that fits the piece.

How a sofa cleaning visit goes

  1. We read the fabric

    The cleaning code on the tag and a test in a hidden place tell us which method is safe.

  2. We vacuum and treat

    Loose soil comes out first. Arms, headrests, seat fronts and spots are treated before cleaning.

  3. We clean each cushion

    Every side of every cushion, then the frame, with the amount of moisture the fabric allows.

  4. We set it to dry

    Cushions are stood on edge so air reaches every side. The sofa is usually dry within a few hours.

How long until I can sit on the sofa again?

Usually a few hours. It depends on the fabric, the weather and the airflow in the room. Standing the cushions on edge and running a fan shortens the wait.

Will cleaning damage the fabric?

Not when the method follows the cleaning code. We read the tag and test a hidden place first. If a fabric is not safe to clean with water, we use a low moisture method or tell you it should not be wet cleaned.

Do you charge by the cushion or by the piece?

By the piece and its size. A quote is based on the sofa or sectional itself and the number of seats, with the fabric and the condition taken into account. Quotes are free.

Can you remove pet smells from a couch?

Often from the fabric, and not always from the core. A recent accident usually responds well. Urine that soaked into the foam of a cushion can leave a smell that surface cleaning improves without removing.

Should I take the cushion covers off and wash them?

No. Leave them on. A cover washed apart from the sofa can shrink or change shade, and then it no longer matches the frame. We clean the covers on their cushions.

Do you clean leather sofas?

No. We do not clean leather. We clean fabric sofas and sectionals, microfiber included, and the cleaning code on the tag tells us which method the fabric allows.

Do you clean sofas in offices and waiting rooms?

I am so happy I ended up getting a hold of this business and this company. I ended up calling them at 6:30 at night and someone answered me said they could send someone out within two business days at my convenience and I was so lucky for who showed up out a gentleman named Bob who is very respectful to my home and my needs and really listen to my concerns. he was very honest with me about the service and the type of stain it was and that is set for a week that there was a chance it would not fully come out and to be prepared for that in case and was able to even work out with the company because of the pricing being a couple hundred dollars for just the stain removal, we were able to do a cleaning of my stairs and small hallway as well for $250. I really felt like this was a great value to keep my carpets fresh. they're only a year old and to my great surprise he got the stain out fully. it's absolutely amazing. this was dark blue ink in a light white gray carpet. he took his time and was very respectful to work with! I will recommend Bob in the service to any one of my friends and family who need a carpet cleaning or staying removal. carpet even itself looks brighter and. Thank you again, Bob!

Having a home full of adolescents means our sectional sofa is pretty much a dining table. It was covered with crumbs and drink spills and odd sticky areas and looked absolutely wrecked. The deep steam did a great job, brightening the cloth, freshening the fragrance and feeling wonderfully clean.

Had a really good experience with the carpet cleaning. There was a huge coffee stain that I thought would never come out, but they got it all cleaned up! It took a couple of hours to dry, but now it smells fresh and looks like new. Super glad I gave them a shot, definitely will use again!
