What carpet cleaning takes out

A vacuum lifts what sits on top of the pile. What it leaves behind is the fine grit that foot traffic grinds down to the base of the fibers, the oils that turn traffic lanes gray, and whatever was spilled and blotted months ago. Professional cleaning loosens that soil and rinses it out of the carpet instead of pushing it deeper.

The gray lane between a doorway and a sofa is the clearest sign. It is worn in by shoes and bare feet, and it is usually the first thing that looks different after a cleaning.

Which method, and why

Most residential carpet is nylon, polyester or another synthetic, and synthetics respond well to hot water extraction, the method most people call steam cleaning. Heated water and a cleaning solution go into the pile under pressure and are pulled straight back out with the loosened soil.

Wool, some loop pile weaves and carpet laid over a floor that should not get wet are treated differently. For those we lower the temperature and the amount of water, or use a low moisture method. We decide after looking at the carpet, and we tell you which method we are using and why.

Stairs, halls and other hard working carpet

Stairs and hallways carry every trip through the house, so they soil faster than a bedroom. Each stair is cleaned by hand with a smaller tool, tread and riser, which is why stairs are counted separately in a quote. Tell us how many steps there are and if there is a landing.

Pet accidents, spills and old stains

Fresh spills and surface stains usually respond well. Pet urine is harder to promise. When it is recent and sits in the pile, treatment and extraction can remove both the mark and the smell. When it has soaked through to the pad or the floor below, cleaning the surface improves it without reaching the source. We look, we tell you what to expect, and you decide before we begin.

Some marks are permanent: bleach spots, sun fading, and dye from a spilled drink that has bonded with the fiber. Cleaning does not bring color back.

Before we arrive, and after we leave

  • Pick up toys, shoes and small items from the floor.
  • Move what you can, and tell us ahead of time about heavy pieces that have to stay.
  • Point out the spots that bother you most.
  • Keep pets and children off the carpet while it is damp.
  • Open windows, or run the air conditioning or a fan, to help it dry.
  • Walk on it in clean socks until it is dry.

How often should carpet be professionally cleaned?

Every 6 to 12 months suits most homes. Homes with pets, small children or heavy foot traffic do better closer to every 6 months, and a guest room that is rarely used can wait longer.

How long does carpet take to dry after cleaning?

It depends on the season. In warm, dry weather carpet is often dry within hours. In winter or in humid weather, and with thick or dense pile, it can take up to 48 hours. Moving air shortens it: open windows when the weather allows, run a fan or the heating, and keep furniture legs off damp carpet.

Will steam cleaning shrink or damage my carpet?

Not when the method fits the fiber. Synthetic carpet tolerates hot water extraction well. Wool and specialty carpet get cooler water and less of it, or a low moisture method, which is why we check the fiber before we start.

Can you remove pet stains and smells from carpet?

Often, when the urine is recent and sits in the pile. Old or repeated accidents that reached the pad or the subfloor are harder, and cleaning the surface may improve them without removing them. We tell you what is realistic after we look.

Do I need to vacuum before you come?

It helps, and it is not required. A quick vacuum removes loose grit, so the cleaning can work on what is deeper in the pile.

I am so happy I ended up getting a hold of this business and this company. I ended up calling them at 6:30 at night and someone answered me said they could send someone out within two business days at my convenience and I was so lucky for who showed up out a gentleman named Bob who is very respectful to my home and my needs and really listen to my concerns. he was very honest with me about the service and the type of stain it was and that is set for a week that there was a chance it would not fully come out and to be prepared for that in case and was able to even work out with the company because of the pricing being a couple hundred dollars for just the stain removal, we were able to do a cleaning of my stairs and small hallway as well for $250. I really felt like this was a great value to keep my carpets fresh. they're only a year old and to my great surprise he got the stain out fully. it's absolutely amazing. this was dark blue ink in a light white gray carpet. he took his time and was very respectful to work with! I will recommend Bob in the service to any one of my friends and family who need a carpet cleaning or staying removal. carpet even itself looks brighter and. Thank you again, Bob!

Having a home full of adolescents means our sectional sofa is pretty much a dining table. It was covered with crumbs and drink spills and odd sticky areas and looked absolutely wrecked. The deep steam did a great job, brightening the cloth, freshening the fragrance and feeling wonderfully clean.
