Area Rug Cleaning in NJ: What to Expect

Area rugs take more abuse than wall-to-wall carpet because they sit in the busiest parts of the house and rarely get moved. Cleaning them properly depends on the fiber and the backing, not on a single one-size method.

In-home versus off-site cleaning

Most synthetic and machine-made rugs clean beautifully in the home with hot water extraction. Delicate wool, silk blends, and rugs with dye-bleed risk are safer handled with a low-moisture method or taken off site. We inspect first and tell you which applies.

What the process looks like

Dry soil removal comes first and matters most, since most of what is in a rug is dry grit sitting at the base of the pile.

  • Fiber and dye test
  • Thorough dry soil extraction
  • Pre-treatment matched to the fiber
  • Cleaning and rinse
  • Grooming and controlled drying

Drying time

Plan on 4 to 8 hours for most in-home rug cleaning with air movement. Thick wool takes longer. We lift the rug off the floor or place blocks underneath so the floor beneath dries too.

Pricing

Rug cleaning is priced by size and fiber, and service starts at $169. Pet contamination and fringe work are quoted separately because they add real labor.

Bottom line

Send us a photo and the approximate size and we will give you a rug cleaning quote before we come out.
